Hi All,
Mabel is doing great. She went for her first radiation therapy session yesterday and we will be going every day for the next 4 to 6 weeks. I was a little slow to send out an update because I was waiting on the results of another biopsy from a lump on the opposite side of her hind leg. The biopsy came back negative so we proceed as planned with the radiation therapy. My friend, Dr. Smrkovski, likened the side effects to a bad sunburn in the affected area. We are following up the treatment with chemotherapy, which if Mabel has a positive response to, will be mild as well. Apparently dogs generally have few side effects from chemotherapy, especially when compared with humans. I really appreciate all of the positive vibes that have been coming our way so keep them coming!

I will continue posting on her progress but in the meantime, several people have expressed the desire to help with the high cost of treatment and some have already sent help. Normally I would try to do it completely on my own but since it is quite high and I am attempting to start a new business, I added a Paypal link through GODTACO below so that those that wish to help out have a way to do so.
A good friend of mine, Michelle, sent a check in memory of her recently departed, beautiful dog Artemis. She lost Artemis to cancer a couple months ago. Michelle found out last December Artemis had liver cancer and surgically removed everything they could see along with 75% of her liver. Prognosis was good. Together, they had six wonderful months. Artemis was acting like a pup again and her follow blood work looked great. Unfortunately, the cancer returned suddenly and aggressively. One day she wouldn’t eat and there was nothing to be done. In honor of Artemis, Michelle donated some money she had put back for her care. I can’t express how grateful I am for Michelle’s kind gift in loving memory of Artemis.
